Last time I wrote it was to discuss some information that came across me regarding maca root, ashwagandha root, and kava kava. All three herbs were allegedly good for helping with stress and depression. There were a couple other benefits including higher levels in energy and increased libido in males ( if you want to read up about all the benefits please read my last article). I said I was curious about the information and would be trying the herbs myself, even giving myself a challenge called the “Maca Challenge”.
For 21 days I would try taking maca root twice a day with ashwagandha once a day. On extra stressful days I would take kava kava at night. Well the results are in and the overall effects were mixed at best. For the first 3 days I did feel an instant kick in energy and was very optimistic on finding a newly discovered tool to help battle depression, stress, and anxiety. After a week I started incorporating the kava kava at night. The kava kava was most effective, and the hardest herb to swallow given the taste. Keep in mind this was in powder form so it was it’s most potent.
So the first week was great for my little experiment, weeks 2-3 were a little different. I actually increased my dosage of daily maca root and switched from the pills I had to powder also. But besides the increased energy boost, I really didn’t feel any different than I did the first week I started the challenge. And I found myself still having a drink from time to time and taking prescription medication to help with my depression and stress. I must admit though the drinking was mostly socially, and the medication intake was drastically decreased for full disclaimer purposes.
One interesting thing during my self challenge was the herbs did have an increased effect when I went to the gym. So to all the workout warriors out there a combination of maca root and ashwagandha root might be a good pre workout drink. So in conclusion, I would give the “Maca Challenge” a 6/10 on the success scale with the ability to be a 7-8ish if you include a workout routine, they are best taken with smoothies. Well that’s all I have for now and don’t forget as always to #spreadtheGOODNews
